CONTENT AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The most optimal dietary pattern to prevent type 2 diabetes is unknown, but research suggests that weight loss appears to be the primary driver of risk reduction. However, other lifestyle changes such as exercise and sleep can also play a role. This webinar will explore the latest science in type 2 diabetes prevention, and how personalised approaches can be used to support individuals.

More than 2.4 million people in the UK are thought to be at an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and its estimated that 850,000 people are currently living with undiagnosed type 2 diabetes.

Research has consistently shown that lifestyle change is the cornerstone of type 2 diabetes prevention. For some people, combined lifestyle interventions can be effective in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes by about 50%.

This webinar discusses the evidence behind dietary and lifestyle interventions for type 2 diabetes prevention, and how a personalised approach can be used to improve outcomes.

We’ll cover:

  • How and why type 2 diabetes develops & the subtypes of prediabetes
  • The effects of physical activity and weight loss on type 2 diabetes risk
  • The role of other lifestyle factors such as stress management and sleep hygiene
  • How to personalise type 2 diabetes prevention programmes for individuals
