CPD CERTIFICATE & LEARNING MATERIALS

This webinar has been approved for CPD by the AfN

This will address a subject that has received a lot of media attention in recent years. Therefore this will enable attendees to refresh their knowledge on an area where personal opinions can be very vocal and take attention away from the evidence base. This will thus help registrants when talking to clients, employers and the public about this subject.

CONTENT AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES

A growing pool of evidence links the consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) to poor health outcomes, including heart health. But how are UPFs categorised and how does it differ to other food classification systems? This webinar will explore the impact of UPFs on health and the role of the NOVA classification system.

Research has repeatedly shown a link between the consumption of UPFs and poor health outcomes, but some critics have highlighted limitations in some of the classifications of UPFs such as the inclusion of plant-based alternatives to milk, yoghurt and meat.

The NOVA classification system was developed by researchers at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil as a method of categorising foods by the level of processing, from unprocessed or minimally processed, such as whole fruits and vegetables, to ultra-processed such as ready-meals, biscuits, and burgers.

In this webinar, Registered Public Health Nutritionist, Jenny Rosborough, will discuss the impact of UPFs on heart health, the role of the NOVA classification system and what this might mean for product reformulation and health improvement policy design.

This webinar covers:
