CONTENT AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Chronic constipation is a common and often debilitating condition, yet dietary advice given in practice has historically been inconsistent and sometimes unsupported by robust evidence. To address this, the British Dietetic Association (BDA) has released the first-ever evidence-based dietary guidelines for the management of chronic constipation, developed using a rigorous methodology including systematic reviews, meta-analyses, the GRADE framework and expert Delphi consensus. These guidelines introduce new recommendations not previously included in clinical guidance, while also challenging commonly used strategies where evidence is lacking.
Understanding how these recommendations were developed – and what the evidence from randomised controlled trials actually shows – is essential for healthcare professionals supporting individuals with chronic constipation. The guidelines highlight the importance of outcome-specific advice and symptom-led decision making, rather than a one-size-fits-all dietary approach.
This webinar will explore the scientific evidence underpinning the new BDA guidelines and translate it into practical, clinically relevant guidance. Attendees will gain clarity on which foods, drinks and supplements improve constipation outcomes, which commonly used approaches lack sufficient evidence, and where important gaps in the research base remain. The session will support healthcare professionals to provide tailored, evidence-informed dietary advice with confidence.
This webinar will cover:
- Evidence from randomised controlled trials on the dietary management of chronic constipation
