CONTENT AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES

This event explores the very latest evidence behind the rise of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) and the health benefits of tracking blood glucose in healthy populations. Much of the current debate surrounding CGMs revolves around their benefits, accessibility, and applicability for healthy populations. CGM wearable devices continuously track glucose levels in real-time, offering a detailed picture of glucose fluctuations.
There is no doubt that CGMs have revolutionised diabetes care. Evidence in diabetes care shows CGMs improves glycaemic control, reducing HbA1c levels. It can help to reduce time in hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia, enhancing safety and quality of life. It has enabled trend analysis and alarms for hypo/hyperglycaemia, preventing glycaemic emergencies.

While now widely recognised as a tool for diabetes management, what is the evidence for potential benefits for the non-diabetic population in engaging in personalised nutrition and metabolism science?

Our eminent Chairs Professor Giles Yeo and Professor Garry Frost will be pressing an expert panel for the nuance with lots of our community questions. Not least of all, does CGM have the potential to revolutionise health within non-diabetic populations and can we move towards a consensus on use?

Join this CPD event to:

Gain understanding of
  • What CGM is measuring and what can this tell us
  • The evidence base for CGMs and health
  • Accuracy of CGM compared to what we want to know
Be aware of
  • The evidence relating to glucose range and health within a non-diabetic population
  • The evidence for CGMs accurately assessing blood glucose responses to foods
  • Whether postprandial glucose peaks are problem for people in the non-diabetic range
  • The evidence for use of CGMs in athletes
  • The overall pros and cons of CGMs and how we can move forward to improve their validity and practical use
  • The research needs
  • Technology advances and future innovations for expanding usability
  • Potential unintended consequences of CDM in non-diabetic populations
  • Ethical and psychological considerations

Be able to
  • Explain the cost, ethical,  psychological and other considerations
  • Consider policy implications
  • Consider the role that CGM can play in integrating digital health tools and AI for personalised care
  • Advocate for research
  • Advocate for accessibility
  • Have a more nuanced understanding of the current evidence base

Innocent Drinks

About Innocent Drinks

Launched in 1999, innocent is Europe’s leading healthy drinks brand. Our purpose is to make it easier for people to live well through the deliciousness of fruit and veg – that’s why we have an ambition of getting a billion more portions of fruit and veg into people’s diets by 2030. We now sell natural, healthy drinks in over 18 countries around the world – smoothies, super smoothies, not-from-concentrate juices, a kid’s range, coconut water, innocent plus, and bubbles: our lightly sparkling fruit juices.

We’ve always been rooted in doing business the right way. We became a B Corp back in 2018 (recertified with a score of 105.2 in 2021) and consider people and the planet in everything we do. It’s the reason we started the innocent foundation and why we’re working to halve our carbon footprint per bottle by 2030. We built the blender (our all-electric, little drinks factory), enhanced our Farmer Innovation Fund for regenerative agriculture projects, and we will never stop looking for ways to make our packaging more recyclable.
