CONTENT AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES

We see calorie counts everywhere… but we eat food, not calories. Should we be worrying about our health and letting our weight take care of itself?

In this webinar Dr Giles Yeo examines the data for how we view calories and how this needs to change. It looks at:

1. How the calories on nutritional labels are derived – and why they are wrong
2. How this concept of caloric availability underlies how most (if not all) diets work
3. Why focussing on the nutritional quality of food, as opposed to calorie counting, should be the way forward

WATCH THE WEBINAR TO

GAIN CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF:
  • How today’s calorie information has been derived
  • What caloric availability means
  • How diet-induced thermogenesis influences caloric availability of food
BE AWARE OF:
  • The underlying principles of how diets work
  • Why it takes more energy for our body to handle protein compared to other macronutrients
  • The role of fibre in caloric availability
BE ABLE TO:
  • Explain how caloric availability underpins the success of most (if not all) diets
  • Explain why focussing on the nutritional quality of food, as opposed to calorie counting, should be the way forward
