CONTENT AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses affecting people of all ages, genders, ethnicities and backgrounds. They include anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa and orthorexia.

This webinar covers:

  • How different eating disorders are diagnosed
  • Warning signs to look out for – they aren’t all food related!
  • Resources and tools to help those suffering with an eating disorder

Eating disorders are responsible for more loss of life than any other mental health condition – and unfortunately the prevalence has risen dramatically in the last 30 to 40 years in the UK and worldwide. It is estimated that between 1.25 million and 3.4 million people in the UK currently suffer from an eating disorder; worryingly, levels among teenage girls are thought to have doubled during the pandemic.

With more people needing help, health professionals need to know how to support them. We know that only 20 percent of medical schools provide training on eating disorders, and many healthcare professionals feel unsure about how to help and how to spot the warning signs.

In this session, specialist eating disorders dietitian Priya Tew shares how healthcare professionals can support patients and clients with eating disorders in the community.
