As health professionals know, changes to diet and lifestyle can significantly reduce hypertension – which is responsible for more than 50 per cent of heart attacks and strokes.
One of the most effective ways to achieve change is by following the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet. But how does this work in practice? And how can you help your clients follow it?
The DASH diet has similarities with the Mediterranean diet in encouraging fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, lean proteins and a lower salt intake, but DASH takes it one step further, giving more specific guidance on portions.
In this MyNutriWeb session, we’re joined by leading dietitian and author of The DASH Diet, Priya Tew. Sharing simple ways to reduce salt and maintain flavour, she’ll provide nutrition advice while prepping tasty healthy DASH diet recipes – helping you inspire your clients to improve their diet and reduce salt intake by incorporating more of the DASH diet principles into their meals.
There’s also the chance to put your questions to Priya in the extended Q&A session.

About the Action on Salt
Action on Salt is a group of specialists working to reduce the salt intake of the UK population, to prevent deaths and suffering from heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, osteoporosis and stomach cancer. The COVID-19 global pandemic has changed our lives in many ways, including how and where we eat. Many of us are spending more time at home and cooking from scratch. While it may seem that the only way to add flavour to home-cooked meals is with a big pinch of salt, there are so many other ways to ensure your food packs a flavoursome punch!
Salt Awareness Week 2022 (14–20 March) focusses on asking the food industry to shake their salt habit, so that we can all live longer, healthier lives.
About the Blood Pressure UK
Blood Pressure UK is the only UK charity dedicated to lowering the nation’s blood pressure to prevent stroke and heart disease. They raise awareness of high blood pressure to find the millions of people in the UK who don’t know they have it, and provide information and support to bring it under control. Their vision is for everyone to know their blood pressure numbers in the same way they know their height or weight and take steps to keep them healthy, both now and in the future. Go to the Blood UK website for further details including membership and plenty of resources.
