Proteins: Getting the right balance for muscle & heart health

Research has long indicated that we need to treat cholesterol at a much younger age if we are going to make any significant risk reduction in cardiovascular disease. In fact, evidence has shown that 29% of peopled aged 25-34 years and 45% aged 35+ already have elevated cholesterol levels. But how do we motivate younger age groups to consider their cholesterol levels? In this event, we will be exploring how to engage a younger audience with cholesterol lowering messages..

As healthcare professionals, we are aware that the 30-35+ age group is typically less receptive to cholesterol lowering messages but is often more receptive to protein, muscle and fitness messages.

Protein foods are an important part of fitness and muscle health, but they can also be a major contributor to saturated fat in the diet, which is a primary risk factor for elevated cholesterol.
One way to engage younger, health-conscious groups in conversations about cholesterol is to talk about the types of protein that are important for muscle health and emphasise the importance for heart health at the same time.

In this webinar, we’ll be joined by leading registered sports nutritionist, Anita Bean, and dietetic advisor for HEART UK, Lynne Garton, for a webinar demonstrating how HEART UK’s Ultimate Cholesterol Lowering Plan © (UCLP©) can be used to bring cholesterol-lowering top of mind with 30-35+ year olds in an engaging and relevant way.

The session will cover:

  • Why we need to focus on this age group and what the evidence says
  • Practical tips to engage with younger audiences
  • How simple recipes and swaps using the UCLP© can make including healthier plant and alternative proteins low in saturated in the diet easy

We’ll be starting the session with a presentation of the evidence with our chair, Lynne Garton, which will be followed by an extended Q&A session with both Lynne and Anita. The webinar will finish with Anita giving a short practical demonstration of simple recipes and swaps to bring the learnings to life in the MyNutriKitchen.

  • Why it’s important to for 30+ year olds to lower cholesterol
  • The impact of different types of protein foods on cholesterol
  • The flexibility and adaptability of the UCLP©
  • The prevalence of high cholesterol in the 30+ year old age group
  • Potential government initiatives for cholesterol-lowering in this age group
  • HEART UK National Cholesterol Month
  • Communicate enticing messages to this audience
  • To direct clients and patients to the UCLP© for credible and practical tips and advice
  • To provide practical high protein dietary advice that will lower cholesterol
