CONTENT AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES

It is increasingly recognised that the gut microbiome may play a role beyond digestion, with emerging evidence suggesting links between gut health, the skin microbiome and skin conditions. This developing area of research, often referred to as the gut-skin axis, is opening up new conversations around how diet, lifestyle and probiotics may support skin health.

In this webinar, we will explore the gut-skin axis as a new frontier in skin health, moving from emerging evidence through to practical recommendations. The session will outline the broad role of the gut microbiome in healthy skin, as well as current research into specific skin conditions, including eczema and acne. Key areas where the evidence is currently limited or still developing will also be highlighted.

Dietary and lifestyle approaches to support gut health will be discussed, including the evidence base for current recommendations and the potential role of probiotics. The webinar will also consider the relationship between the gut and skin microbiomes, current thinking around antibiotics and probiotics, and why restrictive diets can sometimes cause more harm than good in the setting of skin conditions.

We’ll cover:

  • The broad role of the gut microbiome in skin health
  • The current research on the gut-skin axis in specific skin conditions, including eczema and acne
  • Diet and lifestyle approaches to support gut health, including the evidence base for recommendations and the potential role of probiotics
