CONTENT AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Following a coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, symptoms can last for more than 12 weeks – this is called Long COVID. Symptoms of Long COVID vary a lot, and some may significantly impact nutrition. This session is designed to help you understand how Long COVID can impact nutritional status, as well as the current nutritional interventions available to support those with Long COVID.

People with Long COVID can experience a variety of different symptoms, including unintentional weight loss, smell or taste changes, fatigue, nausea and gut symptoms such as diarrhoea, bloating and pain. These symptoms, among others, can significantly impact a person’s ability to eat well for their recovery.

From what we know so far, around one in 10 cases of smell and taste problems persist after COVID infection. Although changes to smell and taste are usually temporary, there is currently no long-term data to suggest how long these symptoms may last.

In this webinar, specialist dietitian Aaron Boysen shares what we know about the nutritional considerations for those with Long COVID, and how healthcare professionals can help.

This webinar covers:

  • What Long COVID is and the common symptoms
  • Nutritional considerations for people with Long COVID
  • How to support people to eat well with Long COVID

Like many dietitians, Aaron was on the frontline during the pandemic, providing nutritional support to patients with COVID-19. Following this, Aaron and his team set up one of the first COVID clinics in the country and appeared on the Channel 4 Documentary ‘The truth about Long COVID’.
