CONTENT AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The menopause transition is associated with significant hormonal and physiological changes, and growing research is exploring the potential role of the gut and vaginal microbiomes in this process. Of particular interest is the estrobolome, the collection of gut microbial genes involved in oestrogen metabolism, and how changes in microbial composition and function may interact with declining and fluctuating oestrogen levels across perimenopause and menopause.
In this webinar, we will explore the emerging relationship between the estrobolome, gut health and the menopause transition. We will examine how gut microbes may influence oestrogen metabolism, how the gut and vaginal microbiomes can change across perimenopause and menopause, and what these changes may mean for gastrointestinal symptoms, genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) and metabolic health.
The session will also take a critical look at this rapidly evolving area of research, considering what the evidence currently tells us, where important gaps remain and how findings can be interpreted in practice. We will explore the developing evidence for diet, lifestyle and microbiome-targeted approaches, including probiotics, and consider how practitioners can translate the science into appropriate, evidence-informed nutrition guidance.
We’ll cover:
- The estrobolome and its proposed role in oestrogen metabolism across the menopause transition
- How the gut and vaginal microbiomes may change during perimenopause and menopause
- Emerging associations between the microbiome, gastrointestinal symptoms, genitourinary health and metabolic health
- What current research tells us about diet, lifestyle and microbiome-targeted approaches, including probiotics
- How to critically interpret this evolving evidence and translate relevant findings into nutrition practice
Watch this webinar to:
Gain understanding of
- The concept of the estrobolome and its proposed role in oestrogen metabolism
- How the gut and vaginal microbiomes may change across perimenopause and menopause
- Emerging links between the microbiome, gastrointestinal symptoms, genitourinary health and metabolic health
Be aware of
- The current evidence linking changes in the gut microbiome with menopause-related symptoms and health outcomes
- The relationship between the vaginal microbiome and genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM)
- The emerging evidence for microbiome-targeted approaches, including the potential role of probiotics
Be able to
- Explain the proposed role of the estrobolome in oestrogen metabolism and menopause
- Interpret current evidence on the gut and vaginal microbiomes, including their potential clinical implications across the menopause transition
- Critically evaluate this evolving research field, identify key evidence gaps and translate findings on diet, lifestyle and microbiome-targeted interventions – including probiotics into appropriate nutrition practice
