CONTENT AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Energy bills, mortgage bills, and food prices are continuing to rise while wages stagnate. A great many individuals and families are feeling the squeeze as a result, with food budgets hit hard. For some households this means food insecurity, while for others it means trading down when it comes to food purchases. This webinar will explore the impact of the cost of living crisis on food prices, food insecurity and the quality of our diets.

Food inflation is something everyone has been noticing in the supermarkets in the recent months. In the 12 months to September 2022, food inflation hit 14.6%.

Inflation for healthier foods such as vegetables is outpacing unhealthier product categories such as confectionary; during the last food price crisis in 2008, intakes of vegetables fell by almost 8%.

The cost of living crisis is already having dire consequences, with 1 in 4 households with children experiencing food insecurity in September 2022.

In this webinar, Registered Nutritionist, Rebecca Tobi from The Food Foundation will share more information on what is causing the rising prices in food, what this means for UK households and the structural changes that are urgently required to improve food security and diet quality for families and individuals across the country.

This webinar covers:
